Over the Easter long weekend, the Bankstown Sports Bulldogs (Bankstown District Cricket Club) took on local rivals, Western Suburbs, in the Second Grade Grand Final at Bankstown Memorial Oval.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, the Bulldogs provided the bark with a strong but achievable total of 287 thanks to a classic innings from Bankstown Sports Cricket Club junior, Ryan Freeman. Ryan scored
With the pressure of the occasion, the Bankstown Cricket Club’s bowlers strangled the Western Suburbs batters out of the match, giving nothing away to skittle the opposition for 131 with Justin Felsch, Zane Mitchell and Ayden Brown providing a great foil for the main wicket takers in Mitch Constantinou and Gurinder Hara.
With little left in the tank for the opposition, Wests returned to the pitch and added an extra 54 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in their second innings, before conceding defeat and handing the Bulldogs the Albert Cup for the 2023/24 season.
Massive congratulations to Mitch Hinds, the playing group and the Bankstown District Cricket Club committee for this wonderful achievement.
