VOLUNTEERS SHINE AT THE BANKSTOWN DISTRICT AMATEUR FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION END OF SEASON PRESENTATION

communitynews | 24 Sep 2024 |

Established in 1951, Bankstown District Amateur Football Association is the organisation responsible for the administration and growth of Football in the Bankstown area for almost 75 years now. Boasting over 7000 players from across 19 clubs, and over 1500 volunteers, the organisation is one of the largest sporting associations in the area, providing opportunities for male and females of all ages and abilities to get involved in the sport of Football.

Bankstown Sports Club is proud to have recently hosted the Bankstown District Amateur Football Association for its annual end of season presentation. This prestigious event marks the conclusion of the season proper, with representatives from all affiliated clubs making an appearance to celebrate the end of another year by letting their hair down and enjoying the festivities.

A significant portion of this event is dedicated to recognising the achievements of both players and volunteers over the season. What was impressive to see was the heavy featuring of participants and volunteers from the Bankstown Sports Stars, Bankstown Sports Strikers, and Birrong Football Clubs who were recognised for their achievements on the night.

From Birrong Football Club, it was player, Jacob Marszal who cleaned up on the night, taking home both the Umbro Bankstown Premier League Golden Boot Award, as well as the Umbro Bankstown Premier League Gold medal; an award calculated by a weekly points system decided by the opposition club, and referees. In addition to Jacob, Birrong Football Club Coach, Kari Markkunen was recognised for his valuable coaching and club contributions over the course of the season.

From Bankstown Sports Stars Football Club, it was superstar club volunteer and coach of the U10/11 girls’ team, Lana Majdoub. Lana was recognised for her valuable project-based work across the season, with her notable leadership in launching the club on the Tik Tok platform, which proved to be a significant marketing and promotional master stroke for the club.

From the Bankstown Sports Strikers Football Club, Harry Ross took out the Club Volunteer of the Year honours for his on-and-off field contributions. In addition, Club Treasurer, and BDAFA Director, Andrew Skaltsounis, was awarded Life Membership with the Association, for his ongoing and valuable contributions to the organisation.

Bankstown Sports Club would like to congratulate not only the volunteers who were recognised on the night, but to all volunteers from their respective clubs who rolled the sleeves up throughout the year. Without their valuable contributions, grassroots sport simply doesn’t happen.
