communitynews | 2 Oct 2024 |

On August 10th, Bankstown Sports Club were Principal Partners of the 10th annual Rotary Emergency Services Community Awards (RESCA) held in the Grand Ballroom in front of 240 distinguished guests such as Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC and The Hon. Jihad Dib MP, as well as Commissioners and emergency personnel from Fire and Rescue NSW, NSW Rural Fire Service, NSW Ambulance, Marine Rescue NSW, VRA Rescue NSW, Surf Life Saving NSW and NSW State Emergency Service.

The RESCA awards are designed to recognise emergency service personnel who have reflected the Rotary motto of “Service above Self” with two major award winners being named in a paid and volunteer category at the end of the evening, celebrating the achievements and heroics of wonderful men and women.

Each agency acknowledges their cohort with four finalists of each organisation being recognised on the night with an eventual winner being announced as their organisations Officer of the Year.

In addition to the deserving agency winners, the Dorothy Hennessy OAM Youth Scholarship is handed out to an outstanding young volunteer who exceeds in putting their community before themselves in the line of duty. The award is named after Dot Hennessy OAM, who is the founder of the RESCA Awards since their inception in 2014, underlining her own personal dedication to fostering the development of youth in the emergency services space.

The night was filled with great tales of emergency servicemen and women going above their line of duty to ensure the safety and wellbeing of their local communities, putting their life in danger to spark hope and faith and acts of selflessness in times of need.

Bankstown Sports celebrates all emergency personnel and congratulates all award winners and emergency personnel for their ongoing commitment to our safety.
