communitynews | 19 Nov 2024 |

On November 18, Bankstown Sports Club proudly hosted its Service to Sport Medal and Awards Night, an evening dedicated to recognising the incredible achievements of our sporting club volunteers. Held in the Grand Ballroom with over 200 guests in attendance, the event was a celebration of commitment, passion, and community spirit.

The night shone a spotlight on the tireless efforts of volunteers, with major awards highlighting their contributions. Tyrone Wait was honoured as Volunteer of the Year for his unwavering dedication and passion, while the exceptional Jade Errington claimed the Young Volunteer of the Year award for her leadership in the safety and wellbeing space of her young female members. Bankstown Sports Netball Club was celebrated as Club of the Year, reflecting their excellence both on and off the court, highlighted by their inclusivity, governance and accessibility.

Additionally, six extraordinary individuals were presented with the prestigious Service to Sport Medals, recognizing their remarkable 20 years of volunteer service. Daniel Metcalfe (Birrong Sports Football Club), Don Beileiter (Baulkham Hills Football Club), Leah Lewis (Birrong Sports Netball Club), Stephen LeRoy (Berala Carramar Hardcourt Tennis Association), John Bottin (Bankstown Sports Bowling Club), and Ray Brooker (Bankstown Sports Bowling Club) were highlighted as the pillars of which their sporting clubs thrive, acknowledging their history, hard work and determination in providing back to their local communities.

The evening also featured an inspiring Q&A Panel with special guests Jessica Hull and Rebecca Rippon, two Olympians affiliated with Bankstown Sports, who shared their personal journeys to the world stage. Adding humour and charm to the event, renowned keynote speaker Mick Colliss had the audience in stitches as he recounted his hilarious foray into the world of Sudoku.

Bankstown Sports Club is proud to be the cornerstone of a vibrant sporting community, and nights like these highlight the passion and dedication that make it all possible. Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating the champions behind the scenes!
