FUNDING FOR GRASSROOTS SPORT REACHES NEW HEIGHTS

communitynews | 21 Feb 2024 |

With 37 submissions coming through the Bankstown Sports Group Category 2 ClubGRANTS round, that was open through the months of December and January, the Club’s Board of Directors have recently approved over $520,000 worth of funds to local sporting clubs and associations.

This quarterly window is the biggest ever in Bankstown Sports’ history of the ClubGRANTS scheme. This amount greatly succeeds the $350,323 that was funded in October 2023.

Over $170k will be used to subsidise the cost of ground hire and lighting fees; $80k will go towards new equipment and development programs for junior coaches, umpires, and participants; $150k will see junior sporting stars be decked out in new uniforms and kits for their upcoming seasons and for our Summer Sports, $30k will be attributed to end of season trophies and prizes with the rest of the expenditure helping fund new club technology, affiliation and competition costs as well as providing coaching and first aid equipment for sports such as hockey, netball and athletics.

The Bankstown Sports Club’s Sports Network are extremely grateful of the support provided through the ClubGRANTS scheme.

“These funds are used for ongoing ground maintenance, field marking, ground hire, equipment, playing uniforms, administration costs and resources and annual presentation funding for both our junior and senior teams” says Tony Hughes, President of Baulkham Hills Football Club, recipient of a ClubGRANTS this round.

“Without this regular funding we as a club would struggle to keep our registrations affordable for those that wish to play to play football.”

Currently the Bankstown Sports Club’s Sports Network boasts over 11,000 grassroots sport participants and 40 sporting clubs. The desire to grow their support within the local community is highlighted with the inclusion of 4 new organisations being approved for funding this round.

Disability Sports Australia, one of those organisations, will be providing Bankstown-centric programs for people with a disability in June in partnership with the Bankstown Basketball Stadium at Condell Park. Bankstown Sports has provided $7k towards the program to help cover the costs of the facility and equipment needed for the program.

Kristy Rohrer, National Manager of the Abilities Unleashed Program, says that the funding will enable the organisation to reach a larger audience and to offer a more extensive range of adaptive sports to accommodate diverse interests and abilities.

The next ClubGRANTS Category 2 ClubGRANTS round for Bankstown Sports Club will open on March 1, 2024. If you are an interested organisation or sporting club, please contact Matthew Starr, Sport and Partnerships Advisor for more information at matthewstarr@bankstownsports.com
