There’s nothing quite like a freshly brewed cup of coffee first thing in the morning to get your day off to a great start. One thing that could make it that little bit sweeter though, is being served by CatholicCare’s BariStars!
Launched in November 2022, BariStars is an initiative from CatholicCare’s Disability Services, providing training and employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
The program came about thanks to a donation from the Estate of Bishop Bede Heather, which facilitated the purchase of a mobile coffee trailer.
Bankstown Sports Club provided a mobile coffee cart, coffee machine, and a grinder for training purposes, while Vittoria Coffee gifted BariStars with two additional coffee machines and two grinders for the mobile trailer, along with a six-month supply of coffee beans, tea, cups, sugar, napkins, and syrups.
Each participant in the BariStars program learns to prepare drinks and serve customers, with the mobile cart already servicing one local business five mornings a week.
It is anticipated the mobile coffee trailer will become a financially viable business in the coming months as it grows in popularity.
