The Bankstown Sports Group is incredibly proud to have been recognised with two awards for its contributions to the community, at the 2024 Clubs & Community Awards.
We were Highly Commended in two categories which were announced at a special presentation evening at the International Convention Centre in Sydney last night.
The first was for Fostering Grassroots Sport with a submission focusing on our contributions to Bankstown Memorial Oval and the sporting teams and community groups that use the facilities there over the past 30 years. It highlighted the yearly funding our Club provides the Bankstown District Cricket Club and its juniors, growing the women’s game in the region, developing an All Abilities cricket program, providing support to disadvantaged children in Uganda, and entering a joint funding arrangement with the state government to upgrade the facilities and amenities at the cricket ground.
The second was for the Heart of the Community, recognising the wonderful contribution by of one of the Bankstown Sports Bowling Club’s longest serving members. Brian Grey – also known as ‘Dubba’ – has been fundraising for the Westmead Hospital Oncology Ward for the past 30 years, and often donates his own money to help sick children being treated there. He also enlists his fellow bowlers to chip in and help and together, they run an annual Christmas Toy Drive with all gifts going to the hospital.
The Bankstown Sports Group is very humbled to have been recognised for these initiatives. We would like to thank everyone involved in our projects at Memorial Oval over the years and a special congratulations to Dubba, for all of his hard work at the Bowls Club.
Thank you also to ClubsNSW for hosting the event and for celebrating the wonderful work Clubs do in our community
